“People don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care.”
-Theodore Roosevelt
I remember the first time I heard this quote, it was like the missing puzzle piece that connected isolated thoughts, emotions and experiences. All of a sudden it made sense, why in my own life advice from others in time of emotional distress was unhelpful and was not what I needed. What I needed is to feel care, as Brene Brown puts it, it’s not what we say that makes things better but an authentic genuine and attuned connection. Connection is what heals hearts not information.
Alex Derevyanchuk, CADC II
Personally and as a professional, I’m always reading or listening to new material in order to improve my personal development as well as to improve my skills and abilities as a counselor, but none of that knowledge holds any weight if I am not foremost meeting you with empathy and care. Most of us know what we want and often even how to get it but our greatest challange lies in execution. I strongly believe that empathy, compassion, and care in a relationship is always followed by an authentic sense of security, stability, happiness, self-worth and self-esteem. Once we have these specific qualities, the motivation needed to execute is just a natural byproduct.
Working with me you can expect no less than empathy and commitment followed by a solution focused treatment.
